We are happy to present the Summer 2013 issue of Social Studies Research and Practice. With so many changes in education around the nation and world this year, educators are looking to scholars for how to navigate new curricula and mandates. Social Studies educators are busy trying to understand how the Common Core State Standards will impact what they do in their classrooms. SSRP has long valued the inclusion of literature and interdisciplinary study to teach Social Studies content. We expect to see an increase in practitioners seeking ways to incorporate literature across the curriculum. We encourage you to share with us what you are doing in your classroom. As always, we will work closely with novice writers to get their ideas published.
The journal has seen some changes this year. Kristi Garrett, a doctoral candidate at the University of Alabama, will be taking over as our Managing Editor and Webmaster. She has already been busy getting acquainted with SSRP and publishing this issue. Please be patient as we make this transition. We value your input and welcome your ideas.
Enjoy the start of the new school year!
